Interview with Tatone

Hell O Monsters, Belgian collective formed by Blastus (Jérôme Meynen), Desro (François Dieltiens), Ewing 33 (Grégory Van Cleemput) and Tatone (Antoine Detaille). While studying art in Belgium the members of Hell’O Monsters adopted the vocabulary of graffiti: pseudonyms, the use of the wall and an emphasis on individual and spontaneous style.

I through facebook to contacted an artist from Hell O Monsters" his name is "Antoine Detaille (Tatone)". In our conversation in facebook, I asked him some questions.


1. What is your background, your studies?

He used to study art in "carrée des arts" in Mons.

2.What kind of technique you useally use?

Useally he use Stickers, sprays,markers, acrylic for painting and walls and chinese ink for paper illustration, illustrator and 3D software, stones, paper,scissors...

3.What is your message/goal in Hell’O Monsters works?

In the Hell’O Monsters works, they used to comment on the duality of the human nature. and we will often find opposites like the human and the inhuman, the life and the dead, the organic and the spiritual, the serious and the burlesque, the religious and the iconoclast in the Hell’O Monsters works.

What is your opinion about the street art in Belgium?

He don't have an opinion about it, he had less and less afinity with that technique. Howeven he still connected to a lot of people in the graffiti milieu.

Do you think street art relate with hip hop culture?

He said No and he thought most of the street artist aren't b-boys.
